A high quality black Jet original antique mourning jewellery. This piece is very unusual as there is a registration mark under the head which dates the piece to July 1880. The Snake is a symbol for rebirth and endless love and is frequently depicted in Victorian jewellery. This is by far the best example of its type that I have come across. Graduated faceted beads make up the Snake's body.
It will fit any wrist because of the wrap around design and could be worn as the coils remain firm. It could also be worn as a necklace.
45cm (18in) long.
The expertly carved head measures 2.4cm
Good antique condition with a few minor nibbles on the reverse of a few of the body beads.
