Unusual silver scent flask and vinaigrette in the form of a hunting horn. With a plain hinged cover at one end, opening to a silver-gilt interior and foliate-scroll pierced grille. Grille engraved with maker's name. A removable screw cap to the flask end, fitted with suspension chains and loop. Hallmarked Sampson Mordan & Co., London 1877, also with the diamond registration mark. Length 3" ( 7.5cm), gross weight 34.7 gm.
Displaying some general surface wear, marks, scratches and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use.
Also the gilding to the screw cap and the interior of the vinaigrette and grille with some dirt residues, staining and tarnishing.
Both hinged lid and screw cap appear in good working order.
Hallmarked to various parts including to both covers and base and grille of the vinaigrette.
The hallmarks on the side of the horn and those on the end of the screw cap are not clear.
Other marks clear and legible, although those on the grille are partly cut away by the pierced decoration.
