This lid was produced by the Pratt Factory c. 1846-1849 and may have been influenced by the then war with China. Produced from a watercolour by Jesse Austin The origin of the design is from ‘China Illustrated’ by T. Allom and from sketches made by Captain Stoddart. The top has a brown border and the colours are good. It comes with an attractive hand-carved circular wooden frame.
The Chin-Chew is now called Quanzhou.
