Chalcedony mouse cased by Sumin, St Petersburg, circa 1905. The mouse has textured fur and gold set circular cabochon ruby eyes, in the original fitted birch wood case, the silk interior with retailer`s stamp for Sumin, St Petersburg, 60 Nevsky Prospekt.
Avenir Sumin was the leading competitor of Fabergé. In 1882 Avenir Sumin obtained a prize for the carving of semi-precious stones at the Moscow All-Russian Industrial Art Exhibition.
