A Belgian silver plate from the Emperor Haile Selassie dinner service by Delheid Freres, 925 standard, circa 1930, import marked for London 1936, cinquefoil with a gadrooned rim, with an applied seal and crown of the Emperor, 22cm (8 1/2 in) diameter, 405gm. Excellent condition.
Haile Selassie arrived in England in 1936 for a period of exile and incurred high living expenses as well as funded travel by his staff and making payments to refugees in England, Palestine and elsewhere. The service consisted of about 500 pieces and was sold in Bath in 1937.
